Nat Meade was named a 2016-17 Sharpe Walentas Studio Program recipient, in which he was granted a free studio space in DUMBO, Brooklyn. Born in Greenfield, Massachusetts, Nat Meade received his Master of Fine Arts degree from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY, in 2007 and his B.F.A, Summa cum Laude, from the University of Oregon in 2001. Nat was recently appointed to the position of Assistant Chair of Fine Arts at Pratt Institute.
Nat Meade builds upon historic painting genre and technique with modern references. His character studies bring us quirky fellow humans with frailty and humor. In terms of his process, Nat has learned to be less hurried as he paints, keeping each piece open-ended. Making six or seven versions of each composition, starting on paper and working up to canvas, Nat spends a lot of time refining and enriching his images. He's working within what he calls the most basic, enjoyable formal parameters.
