"My work presents staged moments in which I am decoding my earliest memories of the world around me; many are based on television. If Edward Hopper is presenting a scene that recalls a theatrical performance, my paintings recall a televised Sunday afternoon movie. I create scenes that seem both familiar and elusive, specific moments inhabited by general archetypal depictions. I begin with an earnest intent of conveying solid forms in believable space. As the painting evolves eventually the figures and objects are reduced to patterns, made transparent, dissolved, or obscured by light."
