Biography Hargis received a BFA from the University of Kansas in 1998, and now lives in Portland. He works actively in commercial illustration. Among his recent commissions are paintings of Jazz and Blues musicians for Starbucks Coffee Company; a portrait of Literature Pulitzer Prize winner Elie Wiesel for Boston Magazine ; and a portrait of Alfred Mosher Butts, the inventor of the game Scrabble.

Press Release Froelick Gallery is pleased to announce Kris Hargis' second solo exhibition titled "Vernonia". Hargis’ haunting style remains in this latest work, which is heavily influenced by the thought-provoking, slower pace of small town life in Vernonia, Oregon. His evolution as an artist is evident as his work continues to develop from the linear elements of his previous drawings to more gestural, painted surfaces.
