Barry Pelzner keeps his materials simple and direct. For years, oil crayon is the only medium he has used in color work. His painterly drawings created en plain air capture the subtle variations between muddy ditch, pristine lake, warm haze and cool overcast skies.
Pelzner makes the most of Autumn and Spring when the sunshine is not harsh. The infinite shades of foliage and land appear more clearly when the light is diffused. He is one of a score of exceptional regional artists who foster the ancient tradition of capturing one's surrounding landscape.
Barry Pelzner began teaching at Pacific Northwest College of Art, Portland, in 1987. Additionally he has taught classes at Oregon College of Art and Craft, Portland Public School, Lewis & Clark College, and Portland State University.
