Lli Wilburn has recently returned to Portland from Pennsylvania to continue exploring the nooks and crannies of her Northwest home. Her exquisitely executed mixed media drawings incorporate ink, graphite and brush-applied fabric dye on small clayboard panels. This material allows the artist to cut away, patch and rebuild surface layers which she then overlays with delicate swaths of luminous color and crisp, fine line work, making each piece the result of an incredibly intricate process. By using selective editing she brings attention to the unnoticed beauty of places often ignored. Her paintings capture the quiet reflection of industrial or commercial areas most people only see as they whiz by in their automobiles.
Lli Wilburn's work will be featured in the juried exhibition Industry & Art: The Rivers Run Through Us, on Swan Island, Portland, September 21 -25, 2011.
Lli Wilburn received her MFA from the School of Visual Arts, NY in 1992 and her BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, VA in 1988. Wilburn has participated in group exhibitions throughout the Pacific Northwest and is represented in the public collections of the Cities of Seattle, Portland, and Portland Community College among others.
