Exhibition tour and discussion with Whitney Lowe

Whitney Lowe is a renowned graphic designer, architect and former creative director at Wieden + Kennedy. He brings a strong formal sensibility, carried over from those disciplines, to his black ceramic sculpture- his manipulation of positive and negative space playfully confound the viewer.
This body of work was inspired in part by two books: His dark works refer to the black cracked, melted road surface in Cormac McCarthy's post-apocalyptic masterpiece The Road; his varied forms are informed by the classic 1971 Soviet sci-fi novel Roadside Picnic by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky, in which the earth is littered with strange objects, some beneficial, some harmful, some inscrutable- the detritus of mysterious visitations.
