Canoe Journeys

Joe Feddersen, 2015

My artwork speaks to a hybrid culture, an intermingling of icons pulled from pop culture and native culture. Depicting the world around us, these icons - bio-hazard signs, peace symbols, human forms, cars, logging trucks, electrical towers, parking lot patterns, animal petroglyphs, became part of the dialogue in Charmed. (Charmed was a curtain of fused glass icons, exhibited in 2012.) In the current suite of unique prints, I choose to celebrate the contemporary/historic gatherings of the canoes with native peoples in the Puget Sound. Even we, the Plateau peoples of the Columbia Basin, have invested in the creation of new river canoes.
