Charles received a BFA in sculpture at the University of North Texas in 1989. He worked at Hiram Butler Gallery in Houston, Texas from 1988 to 1991 and Jamison Thomas Gallery in Portland, OR from 1992 to 1995 before opening Froelick Gallery in 1995.

Charles is an active member of the Portland arts community. Since 2012, he has served as a board member of the Crow’s Shadow Institute of the Arts. Charles served as president of the Portland Art Dealer’s Association (PADA) from 2008 to 2010 and as a board member from 2004 to 2010. Charles worked with the Friends of the Gilkey Center for Graphic Arts, at the Portland Art Museum, from 1999 to 2003 as a member of the Board of Advisors as well as President from 2001 to 2003. He also served on the Regional Arts & Culture Council’s Public Art Advisory Committee in Portland from 1994 to 1999. Additionally, Charles was a committee volunteer for the Cascade AIDS Project Annual Art Auction from 1996 to 1998 and aided in the coordination of art donations for the foundation.

In 2013, Charles was named “One of the city’s iconic gallery owners” in a profile by the Oregon Business Journal. The article can be viewed online here.

Charles credits much of his success to his long-standing and strong relationships with both artists and clients as well as his enthusiasm and great appreciation for the artists that his gallery represents.  

Rebecca Rockom

Rebecca received her BA in Art History and Italian Language from the University of Oregon (UO) in 1989 after spending a year of her studies in Siena, Italy. Rebecca began her gallery career at Bullseye Gallery in Portland in 2002 and has been with Froelick Gallery since 2006.

After graduating from UO, Rebecca attended Fashion School and worked at Saks 5th Avenue in Portland designing window displays. Rebecca left her job at Saks in 1997 when her daughter was born and worked at Will Vinton Studios (now Laika) from 1998 until 2002 as a post-production supervisor.  

Wilder Schmaltz

Wilder received a BFA, with an emphasis on painting, printmaking, and drawing, from the Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA) in 2001. While at PNCA, Wilder spent six months studying abroad in Cortona, Italy.

Wilder has worked as a freelance illustrator for The Portland Mercury publication since 2006 and has been with Froelick Gallery since 2010. Prior to working at Froelick Gallery, Wilder worked as gallery manager of Print Arts Northwest, a non-profit organization in Portland, and as an assistant glass sculptor at 4th Dimension Studios, also in Portland.

Wilder is a founding member and past president of Flight 64 Press, Portland’s only member-run non-profit print studio, which supports print-based artists by providing the tools they need to develop their work  

Stefan Lesueur

Stefan graduated magna cum laude from the University of Oregon with a major in art and a minor in French Language. A native of Salt Lake City, he is a digital artist and photographer, working previously as a graphic designer at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, Univeristy of Oregon, and the Utah Museum of Fine Arts and as a gallery assistant at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts. He joined Froelick Gallery in 2014.  

Laury Emerson

Gallery Staff  _p_Laury Emerson_ _i_Bookkeeper__i_ A Texan by birth_ Laury spent several years in the music industry in Los Angeles.  In Portland_ she has kept the books for architecture and other creative firms. A dog named Lucy is her near-constant companion.
